What was life like in the 1850’s for the new Town of Waterford, founded in 1801? Experience it through the Waterford Historical Society’s “Second Saturday” living history events on Jordan Green. Typically held on the second Saturdays of the month during the spring, summer and fall, Second Saturdays are free and family-friendly.
July 8, 2023, will see “1802: Celebrating an Independent Waterford,” with lawn games like Battledore and shuttlecock; demonstrations about textiles of the period, both of local production and those imported into New London; summertime eating and drinking to keep cool in times of pre-refrigeration, including making ice cream and “Shrub” to drink. Once again a troupe of living historians, the Dirty Blue Shirts, will come to Jordan Green for reenactments in and out of the historic buildings, which will also be open for tours.
There is ample free parking by Jordan Green, the Waterford Public Library or Community Center across Rope Ferry Road, and handicap-accessible bathrooms are located in the lower level of the Stacy Barn.
